Until the Tang Dynasty, the mullioned window was the representative among the people. By the Ming Dynasty, the mullioned windows had a great development. A variety of mullion windows were made on the brick towers of the Song Dynasty, and horizontal mullion windows were also made on the brick towers of the Ming Dynasty. There are many examples, and those are the predecessors of the shutters.

There are only several styles of window lattices, either horizontal or vertical. The horizontal strip is the prototype of the shutter. Strictly speaking, there is a difference between the mullion windows and the shutters, that is, the mullion windows are parallel and the gaps are transparent. The shutters are made of slanted lattices, which cannot be seen from the inside or the outside in the horizontal direction, and can only be seen when viewed from an inclined plane. The wooden window lattices made by people in ancient times were mainly used to achieve the purpose of ventilation and air circulation. In modern times, the shutters have been improved in various ways, and they have integrated many functions and are suitable for various buildings.

But the modern shutter was invented by an American named John Hampson and patented the invention on August 21, 1841.

Shutters are generally relatively wide and are generally used for indoor and outdoor shading and ventilation. The shuttered curtain wall, which is recognized by more and more people, also evolved from shutters. The louver curtain wall has many functions and advantages, and is very beautiful, and is generally used in high-rise buildings.
